Huge blow for Chelsea as Romeo Lavia is ruled out for the rest of the season

As confirmed by Chelsea’s official website, midfielder Romeo Lavia will be sidelined for the rest of the season owing to a setback in his recovery.

The Belgian ace last minute for the Blues in December against Crystal Palace. However, his 32-minute cameo was cut short due to an unfortunate injury.

The youngster signed from English club Southampton for £58million. However, he missed the initial four months of league football due to injury. He was unable to recover even after returning for the Palace game.

The 20-year-old Romeo Lavia has been working on individual training sessions as part of his rehabilitation at Cobham. However, he will be continuing his recovery process after being ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The club statement read:

“Midfielder Romeo Lavia is to unfortunately miss the remainder of our 2023-24 campaign following a setback in his recovery. Recent medical assessments have confirmed that Lavia, who sustained a significant thigh injury against Crystal Palace back in December, will not feature again this season.”

Romeo Lavia was the centre of attention in the last summer transfer window after snubbing a move to Liverpool.

Chelsea worked hard to secure his services and the defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia admitted that the project and the ambition were the key factors behind his decision to move to Stamford Bridge.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will need to rely on Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher for the upcoming clash against Burnley on Saturday.
