Olivier Giroud proves he’s still France’s No.1 striker as he hit a brace against Sweden

Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud has taken his international duties seriously as he put up a stellar performance against Sweden. He scored a brace for the French team after Denmark took a lead. The match ended 4-2 and Giroud showed he is still a reliable striker that France could put faith on.

Didier Deschamps gave a warning to Giroud regarding the lack of game time he is getting in Chelsea and asked him to move somewhere he will be able to play.

“The situation is not good for him. It is for him to see, he will decide,” Deschamps said of Olivier Giroud, as quoted by Goal.

“But in terms of the France team, psychologically and physically for him, he has every interest in having playing time. I hope that by January he will have more playing time. After that, he will stay [in the squad] or he won’t,” said Deschamps.

The Chelsea striker put in a poor display against Finland earlier. The veteran striker returned to the starting XI and his stellar display has given a reminder of what he is capable of and his quality in the upfront.

People criticized Giroud for his lack of goals when France won the 2018 World Cup. He had zero goals despite featuring in all the games for France but the coach knows the importance of his abilities. The competitions from the like fo Marcus Thuram, Martial has not threatened his place in the squad.

Deschamps knows that he is still a reliable one when France will need to score and he has immense faith in him which was seen in the match where he started after a long time.
