Frank Lampard talks about Manager-Player Relationship and Petr Cech

Chelsea has spent more than £200m to overhaul their squad ahead of the new 2020-21 season. Every big-money move recruit has said head coach, Frank Lampard’s personal touch as instrumental to their signature.

Chelsea beat Liverpool in the race to lure prolific Germany striker Timo Werner to Stamford Bridge. Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz were further big-name arrivals. Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and talented France Under-21 defender Malang Sarr have also joined the Frank Lampard’s side.

While the players have mentioned Lampard’s influence, the Chelsea boss himself has now admitted his part in pushing those deals over the line.

“You understand when it is the competition with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City that you need to state your best case to the player,” said Lampard.

“I think having been that player at one point, the idea as a manager is to try and sell the club and how I want to move forward.

“Petr (Cech) in his role does the same and I do that to the best of my ability when I speak to players.

Lampard is of the opinion that the conversation of the manager-player is really important because the relationship needs to be good and positive going forward.

Werner and Havertz should feature in Chelsea’s Premier League opener at Brighton, live on Monday Night Football, with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz all set for their Chelsea debut.
