Frank Lampard pleased with the attitude of his players but not the result of the game

Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard was pleased with the attitude and determination that his players showed in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Although the result was not what he wanted, he was happy to see an improved display than what he saw in a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Frank Lampard didn’t shy away from showing great disappointment against the Gunners. He talked about having consequences for such a poor performance and he did by making six substitutions from the first XI.

‘I wasn’t displeased with anything tonight other than the fact that we conceded that goal, and we didn’t really concede many chances in the game, and we didn’t score another goal which would have given us some comfort. But I was pleased with the players who came in, I was pleased with the attitude,’ he said as per the Official Chelsea website.

The Blues’ coach thought that a winning streak is enough to let the team drive towards victory in following matches but he was wrong. He and his team earned just four point sin their previous four matches and has increased the point difference with the league leaders, Liverpool.

‘When things are going well it’s pretty easy. We were on a long unbeaten run, we were playing well, not too many levels up from what we were playing today. Today the focus of the team was good, some of the play between the lines, particularly down our left-hand side with Chilwell and Christian and Mason was really good, against a really good team.

‘So I think maybe we would have won it a month ago. When you’re in a good run the ball goes in the back of the net more, like with Christian’s chances or the chances at the end of the game, the goal that happened when you’ve got a man down. Unlucky or whatever you want to call it, that’s just football. It’s a point, we wanted more, but if we keep playing with the same attitude then we will get back to winning,’ he added.

Lampard believes that the right attitude is everything. He was pleased with the way his boys started the game against Aston Villa. Although Olivier Giroud’s goal gave them a lead in the first half, they blew it.

Aston Villa scored in the second half and threatened to score more before Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal got ruled offside due to Christian Pulisic’s movements. Aston Villa was the last game of the year 2020 and Manchester City will be waiting for them soon as the new year will begin.
