Frank Lampard must sell Marcos Alonso and here’s why

Chelsea has struggled with inconsistent performance in the left-back position since the start of Lampard’s managerial job last season. Chelsea’s left-back Marcos Alonso has been very poor in that area and has gone down the pecking order once Ben Chilwell got fit and eligible to start. Alonso’s future seems uncertain at Chelsea with Emerson fighting for that position too.

But once, he was the starter under Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri and even Lamaprd last season. Now, it seems that Lampard will send them away to some club out on loan, or for good. He was even the target of Antoni Conte earlier in the summer.

Alonso although isn’t aq speedy fullback but provides control and alert decision making in the backline which makes him more like a conservative player who goes up when it is necessary But this doesn’t change the fact that he has scored goals despite his conservative nature.

Nevertheless, when he got the chance to play, Alonso failed miserably. He has been totally shaky in defence and doesn’t even contribute to the attack as well. His lack of effort while defending has forced Lampard to bench him and Chelsea is doing good with Chilwell’s presence. He has provided immense quality to the left flank of the Blues and the coach trusts him.

Not utilizing a player means devaluation from Chelsea’s point of view along with meeting expensive wages throughout the year. Not getting enough minutes will make it difficult to offload to some club. So selling Alonso in the upcoming winter transfer season should likely happen.
