France coach Deschamps lavishes praise on star midfielder N’Golo Kante

France manager Didier Deschamps says that N’Golo Kante remains the standout performer in his World Cup-winning side and the midfielder is one player demanded by every manager on the teamsheet.

The Chelsea star, who is fresh on the back of his Champions League-winning heroics this past season, is heavily backed to be one of the most influential figures in the France camp during the month-long UEFA European Championships now underway.

Kante displayed his very best ability on the pitch in the backend of last season as the former Leicester City man claimed four man of the match accolades in European football on the way to Chelsea’s success in the final against Manchester City.

With France, the reigning champions of the world, tipped for continental glory this time around, Deschamps is aware that Kante remains one of his most important names who will be expected to anchor the midfield alongside Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

“The midfielder works in the shadows. He is not given media attention. ‘From time to time, lights get shown on them, that’s the case for Kante now,” said Deschamps.

“He is above all the players his team-mates pick for their teams in training.”

“And he is the first name that a coach, a national team manager notes down when he is starting eleven.”
