Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech signs for Ice hockey team

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech on Wednesday announced that he is signing to play for a British league ice hockey team as a goaltender.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Phoenix to get the match experience,” Cech told the club’s website.

“I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play.

“After 20 years of professional football, this is going to be a wonderful experience for me to play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid.”

Petr Cech returned to former club Chelsea as a technical and performance advisor in the summer and is often seen in Chelsea training sessions working alongside his old teammate and current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

Cech won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League during his Chelsea career and along with John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, and Didier Drogba formed the spine of the Chelsea team that was so successful from 2004 to 2012.

He was then sold to Arsenal after the arrival of Thibaut Courtois from a loan deal. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was willing to sell Petr Cech to Arsenal despite being a rival club due to his close relationship with the goalkeeper and for his years of service to Chelsea.
