Five New Chelsea Signings for the 2022/2023 Season and What They Add to the Team?

Chelsea ended the last Campaign in third, with 74 points to secure another Champions League competition for the 2022/2023 season. Last season was tough for the blues when they lost two domestic cups to Liverpool. The English Premier League started on the 5th of August 2022, between Crystal Palace and Arsenal. Arsenal won the game 2-0.

Chelsea’s former owner Roman Abramovic, a Russian oligarch, acquired Chelsea in 2003, becoming the most successful and controversial Premier League owner of the last two decades. Then, the issue with the U.K. government forced him to sell the club because of his links to Vladimir Putin, which also forced Russia out of the World Cup.

Roman tried to get ahead of the sanctions on him from the UK government, so after three months, he put the club up for sale; it officially ended on the 30th of May. Chelsea now confirmed the completion of the club’s takeover by the Boehly- Clearlake Consortium.

Also, Marina Granovskia, the club representative, is responsible for player transfers and squad management. During her stay under Roman, she did well by signing Chelsea’s high-profile player to the club, which was a key part of her prominent profile.

However, Chelsea Co-owner Todd Boherly, named as the new chairman and interim sporting director, took over the space by selecting and signing new players they feel will fit in the current team to step up their games.

Since his arrival, Chelsea was silent in the transfer window for a while before they started signing players during their pre-season tour in Los Angeles. Below is a list of top Chelsea signings for the 2022/2023 campaign.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling is an English Professional footballer born on the 8th of December 1994. He plays as a singer and an attacking midfielder in the English Premier League and is also in one of the first eleven for the England National team.

He was born in Jamaica and later moved to London at age five, where he began his career at Queen Park Rangers in 2003 before signing for Liverpool in 2010.

He played for Liverpool for five years before joining Manchester City in 2015. He has scored 154 goals since he joined Liverpool. He was the first player signed during their pre-season games in LA, and he was happy to join the team.

The combination of his well-timed runs and speed that few EPL defenders can match, which makes him get in on goal consistency, is one of the reasons he was signed, and hopefully, he will add that to Chelsea’s current team as he prepares to represent England in the 2022 World Cup.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Chelsea announced their second signing of the summer in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese have been linked with a move to the premier league almost every summer of his career. He has been with Napoli since 2014 making 317 appearances in all competitions. Koulibaly is 31 and plays as a center-back for the Senegal National team.

He is said to be a replacement for Antonio Rudiger since he departed from the club to sign for Real Madrid on a permanent deal. Kalidou has been one of the best defenders in the world, with defensive features, including strength, prowess, and speed, which have earned him so much in his career.

He also helped his team to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final. He will help the current Chelsea team in their defense.

Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella became the most expensive left-back in England after signing for Chelsea on a six-year permanent deal from Brighton & Hove Albion. He’s a Spanish footballer who plays as a left-back in a back four, featuring at wing back and more centrally in a back three when he was in Brighton last season. The 24 years was born in Alella, Spain, and he started his youth football career in 2006 with Espanyol.

He later signed for Barcelona in 2017 and spent five years in Camp Nou. he played over 100 games for Eibar and Getafe before signing for Brighton in 2021. He was an incredible player last season who won the club’s player of the season award. His qualities will improve Chelsea’s defense in the 2022/2023 season as he hopes to join Spain in the World Cup soccer 2022 event.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Carney Chukwemeka is one of Chelsea’s new signings who has agreed on the terms of a six-year contract from Aston villa. The Nigerian-born plays as a midfielder and also represents England at the youth level; he recently captained England under 19.

He joined Aston Villa academy in March 2016, winning Academy player of the season. As a strong young lad, he will add more strength to the current Chelsea midfield. We hope to see him play his debut game for his new club soon.

Gabriel Slonina

Gabriel Slovenia is a young goalkeeper who plays in Major league Soccer club Chicago Fire, becoming the youngest starting goalkeeper in league history at 17years. He is an American professional soccer player. In 2022 he was ranked first and has been a top goalkeeper in MLS.

Slonina fits the Chelsea mold of tall, strong, and dominant goalkeepers because he has all the physical attributes you want from a goalkeeper. He is known as an excellent shot-stopper who has made exceptional saves. He’s going to become Chelsea’s first choice in the future.
