Fans displeased with Kepa although Lampard insists to be happy with his Keeper’s performance

Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard insists that he is happy with his team’s No.1 goalie, Kepa Arrizabalaga’s performance in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. He seems satisfied despite the Spaniard conceded another goal outside of the box.

The Blues earned three important points after two second-half goals from Reece James, which was spectacular and Kurt Zouma from the corner. This came after Brighton’s Lucas Trossard canceled out Jorginho’s 23rd-minute penalty.

Brighton scored the equalizer nine minutes into the second half which saw Kepa allowing a strike from outside the box. The ball dipped under his right hand and into the bottom-left corner and Kepa couldn’t show promising movements to stop that ball.

As per the Chelsea boss, Kepa seemed more confident than the previous season.

“I’m very happy with Kepa,” Lampard said after the match.

“With the shot, I’m not sure if he could have done any better but I saw a bit more confidence in how he was playing.”

“Kepa’s here, he’s our keeper and I’m happy with him. If we are bringing in a competition it’ll be a competition. That’s the nature of Chelsea. That goes throughout the squad so we’ll see,” he added.

Despite being the winner in the Amex Stadium, a number of Chelsea fans weren’t impressed with Kepa’s role in the only goal which Chelsea conceded. The Chelsea fans expected the shot to be saved and would’ve been happier with a clean sheet in the Premier league’s first match. But thanks to Kepa, it couldn’t be done as per them. The fans stormed Twitter and urged the club to make Mendy deal as soon as possible.

The Blues are said to be close to signing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, but Lampard is seen to be publicly backing the young goalkeeper for whom the club paid £71.6million in 2018.
