As per the club’s official Twitter handle, Chelsea have announced Reece James as their new captain, succeeding club icon Cesar Azpilicueta.
The 23-year-old will take on the role of captaincy after Azpilicueta concluded his 11-year tenure with the Blues, departing to Atletico Madrid on a free transfer earlier in the summer.
The England international full-back has spent a significant portion of his career at Chelsea, having become associated with the club as a young child of six.
He advanced through the club’s youth ranks to become an integral component of the club’s senior squad.
Having participated in 147 matches for the Blues, James has contributed 11 goals and 20 assists. He is esteemed as one of the premier right-backs in European soccer.

Chelsea’s management has been grooming him for a leadership position within the club, and now the defender has the opportunity to realize his lifelong aspiration as he takes on the captaincy.

As a former loanee from Wigan Athletic, James is determined to overcome his injury setbacks and make a substantial impact this season.
