Drinkwater Returns To Chelsea From Burnley Loan Spell

English midfielder Danny Drinkwater will return to Chelsea this month after making just two appearances for Sean Dyches’ Burnley since joining on loan at the start of the campaign.

The Clarets manager Sean Dyche confirmed at a news conference on Friday that the combative midfielder would be returning back to Stamford Bridge after making only two appearances for Burnley.

Drinkwater played just one game in the Premier League for Burnley, in the 4-1 defeat against Manchester City at Turf Moor on December 3rd, having also started the shock 3-1 loss to Sunderland at Home in the League Cup back in August.

The 29-year-old midfielder stated that it was “time to get my career back on track” when he signed a deal with Burnley and that contract that expires on January 6th.

Drinkwater was looking forward to his time at Burnley as he explained, “It was a bit of a complicated time at Chelsea, but I see this as a positive move and I’m looking forward to getting going,”

However, Drinkwater has struggled to break into Dyche’s first-team plans his ankle injury during an alleged altercation outside a nightclub in Manchester back in September, further curtailed his attempt to rejuvenate his career.

Drinkwater managed to play only 23 times for Chelsea since joining the club for a transfer fee of £35million from Leicester City, having helped the Foxes to their incredible Premier League title triumph in the 2015-16 season.

There are also reports that Aston Villa could make an attempt to sign him on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.
