Kai Havertz can replicate how Roberto Firmino operates under Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp for Chelsea according to Joe Cole. Cole is a former Chelsea midfielder who holds the opinion that the record signing winger, Kai Havertz must be used centrally by Lampard after being used in the left-wing.
The Germany winger has arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of expectations from the Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen after delayed negotiations between the two clubs.
That’s the view of former Blues midfielder Joe Cole who believes the club-record signing from Bayer Leverkusen must operate centrally after being used as a right-winger on his Premier League debut by head coach Frank Lampard. He is considered to be a generational talent and his potential must be unleashed at Chelsea according to Cole.
Although he has bagged three goals against Brighton, his performance has not been up to the mark. This has called in a debate whether to use him centrally or in wings. Lampard has to fit in Havertz with Werner, Pulisic, and Ziyech and that is only by following the steps of Klopp.
In Liverpool’s system, Firmino acts as a catalyst for the trio to get the best out of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Cole can clearly see the similarities and thinks it to be the ideal option to use Havertz as Firmino.
“I see him as a Firmino-type player where he knits it together,” Cole said as per LFC Live news.
“So you want him playing central, you want him in these positions.”
“He’s got spacial awareness where he can bring players into the game. Frank played him off the right where he was largely ineffectual and this (positional heatmap) highlights it brilliantly.”
“I think he will score lots of goals from this position.”
He considers that the position will make him good as his fellow teammates will love to play alongside him and he can score from centrally too. His impact will just not be with assist and scoring but rather he will bring out the best of his surrounding players. This will eventually help Chelsea to chase the titles.
