Claude Makelele Joins Chelsea’s Backroom Staff As Academy Coach

Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has been appointed as a technical mentor for the academy players as well as those ones out on loan.

Following the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager of Chelsea football club and Petr Cech as the clubs technical and performance advisor, another legend will be joining the back room staff.

Claude Makelele spent five seasons at Stamford Bridge as a player making 217 appearances for the club and helped the Blues to win two Premier League titles as well as one FA Cup before leaving for Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain in 2008.

The 46-year-old will now return to West London to work with the Chelsea players that are on loan visiting them at different locations and providing feedback to the club. Makelele most recently worked as a manager of Belgian top-flight side Eupen and left this summer to take up the mentoring job at Chelsea.

On his return to Chelsea, Makelele announced his pleasure and willingness to do the best that he can, “I am very happy to come back home. This club gave me a lot and now I want to give back and help the young Chelsea players dreaming of a career in football. I want to use all my experience to help them become professionals in every aspect and I am looking forward to getting started.
