Chelsea’s talks with Mason Mount over a new contract have reached a stalemate with just 18 months left on his current terms at Stamford Bridge.
The England international playmaker has been locked into negotiations with the club since last summer with Chelsea hoping to tie down their first-team star to a new long-term deal and ward off interest in his services from elsewhere.
Despite talks being underway for a long time now, there is yet to be a breakthrough as Chelsea hope that Mount will follow his England teammate Reece James in putting pen to paper on an extension with the west London giants.
According to a report from The Telegraph, the fresh roadblock in Mount’s discussions with the Chelsea camp over his contract renewal will come as a setback to the new boss Graham Potter who has viewed Mount as an important name on the team sheet.
It is understood that Chelsea have looked at contingency plans with Mount heading into the last stage of his five-year deal with the Blues keeping tabs on the likes of Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini and Villarreal starlet Yéremy Pino.
