Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still in negotiations with Saudi based club

It appears that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s disappointing tenure at Chelsea will likely come to a close this summer.

The 34-year-old striker was brought in by former manager Thomas Tuchel for a reported fee of £12.1 million, as they had previously worked together at Borussia Dortmund.

However, Aubameyang’s playing time under Tuchel was limited to just one appearance before the manager was sacked.

Throughout the rest of the season, under the guidance of Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor, and Frank Lampard, the African striker featured in only 20 additional matches across various competitions for the Blues.

The 34-year-old’s underwhelming season at Chelsea saw him score just one goal in the Premier League and being excluded from the Champions League squad despite featuring in the group stage.

Consequently, he is expected to be one of several notable players departing Stamford Bridge as the club aims to rejuvenate its squad.

While there has been significant interest from the wealthy Saudi Pro League, Aubameyang is yet to agree on a move. As stated by Fabrizio Romano, the Gabonese striker is in talks with the Saudi-based club and no agreement has been struck between the two sides.

Chelsea has received a £6 million offer for him, which they are eager to accept. However, Aubameyang is determined to leave the club on his own terms, initially hoping for a return to Barcelona that did not materialize.

Major League Soccer is now believed to be a potential destination, with previous links to LAFC back in February.

The striker is optimistic about securing a departure from Chelsea without a transfer fee, even though he still has one year remaining on his contract.

With the appointment of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the club faces a significant rebuilding task, given their recent heavy spending under new ownership and their 12th-place finish in the league last season.
