Chelsea vs Derby County: Match Report | Carabao Cup

Chelsea were given a fright on the day of Halloween, by the Rams of Lampard. Derby Cpunty, a threat throughout, did cast an enigmatic performance, unexpected by many.

The game that ended 3-2 could have gone into the penalties if David Nungent’s shot in the 11th hour would have hit the post and gone past the line.

Lampard’s Derby do deserve a credit for their enterprise for having Chelsea very close indeed.

First goal came as early as dawn in the 5th minute for the Blues courtesy a own goal from Fikayo Tomori. It was Zappacosta’s cross that deflected into the post.

Not long did it take Jack Marriot to equalise the scoring for Rams in 9th minute, slotting home from inside the box.

The Halloween night had brought in scare to both defensive unit, by and large. Chelsea’s second goal came off helpless Keogh’s leg, again from a low and hard cross of Zappacosta.

The Rams, again hit the ball past Willy to equalise the game as early in 6 minutes. An unmarked centre-forward Waghorn stood in the box to convert Mount’s cross into a scoreline equaliser.

When the time had come to give an end to a scary half for defence of Rams, Chelsea came sprinting again into opponents box and this time goal came off the legs of their own midfielder, Fabregas.

The teams went into the half 3-2, only to come back and play a goalless half. A win for Chelsea and entry into quarter-finals of Carabao cup.

Tough luck for the lad of Stamford Bridge, Lampard whose name was heard more often than the echoing chants of Blues.
