Chelsea will be forced to take a last minute decision on the availability of Thiago Silva and Kante ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday night against Tottenham Hotspur.
The first-team star duo have been on the sidelines of late after registering positive tests for COVID-19 in the build-up to the first leg against Spurs which resulted in a 2-0 win for Thomas Tuchel’s men.
Tuchel, however, sounded out in his pre-match press conference that he will be taking a late decision on featuring Silva and Kante come Wednesday at Stamford Bridge for the second of the two-legged semi-final meeting between the city rivals.
“Right now I would say we have the same guys as we had in the cup game. No news and no new injuries which is good news for us and we have to wait for last minute decision on Thiago and N’Golo.”
“I don’t know. I have to wait if they are in training and then let’s see how they respond. If we do it, it’s a gamble and I’m not sure if we do it, how much responsibility we can take there. At the moment I’m not even sure if they come to training.”
The Chelsea boss remains unable to call upon the services of breakout star Trevoh Chalobah who will sit out the upcoming game as well following him sustaining a hamstring issue.
Both Reece James and Ben Chilwell are also set to miss the Spurs clash with the England international defensive pairing expected to be long-term absentees after their injuries earlier this season.
