Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Inter Milan talisman Romelu Lukaku who is backed to be one of the top names on Thomas Tuchel’s summer wishlist at Chelsea.
Lukaku has been linked with an exit from the cash-strapped San Siro outfit this summer but the Belgium international has asserted that he remains keen on staying put and working with the new boss Simone Inzaghi who takes over from Antonio Conte.
Conte’s departure from the job earlier this summer had given birth to talk that Lukaku will follow suit and sign for his former side Chelsea with Tuchel in the market for a new striking force to bolster his options.
Ex-Belgium international Emile Mpenza believes Bayern Munich could position themselves as an ideal destination for Lukaku who was praised by Mpenza for his strength and pace on the ball.
The 28-year-old forward has been in flying form for the Red Devils at the ongoing UEFA European Championships with three goals in as many games with his side set to take on Portugal next in the Last-16.
“Romelu’s strength in a duel and his speed are outstanding. That makes it so difficult for the defenders against him,” Mpenza said to Sport Bild.
“I think he could be a candidate for Bayern. I’ve thought a lot about where he would go. You have to accept his game, so he wouldn’t be in good hands with all the top teams.
“At Barca, for example, he would switch to an existing game system that is not tailored to him. It would work for Bayern because they would play for him. Just like now for Lewandowski. I would like to see Lukaku in the Bundesliga.”
