Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang agrees to join Olympique Marseille

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to leave Chelsea and start a new footballing journey in France.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Aubameyang has reached an agreement to join Olympique Marseille, and the transfer will be a free move between the two clubs.

The 34-year-old striker is set to sign a three-year contract with Marseille. He will be joining the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany tonight.

Before being officially unveiled as Marseille’s newest signing, Aubameyang will undergo comprehensive medical tests on Thursday.

Marcelino, the new Marseille boss, is said to have pushed for the signing and is counting on the centre-forward to lead the team’s frontline.

Aubameyang’s time at Chelsea has been filled with challenges, as the former Arsenal attacker has struggled to meet the high expectations placed on him.

The striker’s time at Stamford Bridge has been challenging since he was signed by Thomas Tuchel, who was later dismissed a few months after the transfer.

His performance struggled to impress, partly due to Chelsea’s poor form throughout the season, resulting in limited chances for him. Despite Barcelona’s interest in reacquiring him in January, the Blues refused to let him go.

Now, Aubameyang is eager for a fresh start and a chance to revive his career with a club that believes in his abilities.

The allure of Marseille was too tempting for him to resist, despite interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Saudi Arabian clubs.

Returning to France holds special significance for the striker, as his last stint in Ligue 1 was with Saint-Etienne in 2013.

Aubameyang’s move to Marseille will see him replace Alexis Sanchez, who left the club this summer as his contract had expired, making him a free agent.
