Chelsea star Mason Mount could be inching closer to signing for rivals Liverpool this summer with the midfielder expected to have his wages cut by up to 30 per cent.
Mount has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield with the Merseyside giants keen on the England international’s signature amid his well-documented standoff with the Chelsea camp over a new contract.
According to a report from The Daily Express, it is claimed that Liverpool stand to gain should Mount be one of the Chelsea first-team players who could have their salary reduced as the Blues look set to miss out on next season’s Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have been credited with a strong interest in moving in for the 24-year-old Mount despite the attacker enduring a woeful season at Stamford Bridge due to inconsistent form and a pelvic injury.
He penned his last extension with Chelsea back in 2019 and will be entering the final 12 months of that agreement from this June with clubs across England and Europe keeping close tabs on his situation.
