Chelsea have a renewed sense of optimism over extending Mason Mount’s contract

Chelsea have a renewed sense of optimism over extending Mason Mount’s contract despite suggestions that the midfielder could be on the move when the transfer window reopens for business later this year.

The England international has been holding out for a major bump in wages which was not music to the ears of the Chelsea board who have been generous in their spending over bringing in new faces since last summer.

With some of the biggest clubs across England and Europe credited with an interest in moving in for the 24-year-old Mount come the summer, there is the expectation that Chelsea could cash in on him with Mount approaching the final 12 months of his current deal.

According to a report from 90min, however, Chelsea’s extensive search for a longer-term managerial appointment has convinced Mount to feel more confident about the future of the club as the Blues look to bring in a big-name coach for the dugout.

Chelsea remain hopeful they can persuade the English playmaker to stay put at the Bridge and recently hinted at a willingness to agree to a shorter contract after having tied down Ben Chilwell to a four-year extension.
