Hakim Ziyech’s highly anticipated departure from Chelsea and a potential move to Saudi Arabia were on the verge of completion before the deal unexpectedly collapsed at the last moment.
In an effort to offload the high salary burden associated with Ziyech, Chelsea were reportedly willing to accept offers as low as £8 million from Al-Nassr to facilitate the departure of the out-of-favour Moroccan player.
Ziyech’s anticipated move to Al-Nassr took an unexpected turn as the deal fell apart at the last minute. The 30-year-old had even travelled to Riyadh and underwent medical examinations in preparation for signing a three-year contract.
However, according to the Evening Standard, Ziyech was unable to finalize the details of his long-term contract with the Gulf country and is now returning to London.
Considered surplus to requirements at Chelsea, Ziyech was among several underperforming players that the club sought to offload.

The failed negotiations with Al-Nassr, coupled with potential issues during the medical assessment, raise doubts about the possibility of a future move to the Middle East club in the coming weeks.
Ziyech may experience a sense of déjà vu as he comes back to a club that seemingly does not want him. The left-footed forward had previously missed out on a deadline-day transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in January due to a paperwork error by Chelsea.
Having fallen out of favour under multiple managers, it is difficult to envision a revival for Ziyech under Mauricio Pochettino, especially considering the Argentine’s intention to reduce the size of his squad.
Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax for £33 million in 2020, but his stint in the Premier League has been lacklustre, highlighted by a disappointing return of three goals from 18 league appearances last season.

It is important to highlight that during the 2022/23 season, the majority of Ziyech’s appearances for Chelsea came as a substitute. He had limited playing time, averaging only 36 minutes per game in the Premier League.
Considering his underwhelming performances and the likelihood of the situation deteriorating further, Ziyech might start exploring alternative options to depart from Chelsea.
