Chelsea sign Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez

As revealed by the club’s official website, Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sánchez from Brighton.

The 25-year-old has signed a remarkable seven-year contract with the club. The transfer deal was agreed upon at a fee of approximately £25 million ($31.7 million).

The addition of Sánchez comes as Chelsea aims to strengthen their goalkeeping options following Edouard Mendy’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli in June.

Under the leadership of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the club is determined to turn their fortunes around after a disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League last season, which marked their worst performance since 1994.

Chelsea have now roped in the Spanish goalkeeper from Brighton on a huge contract. The 25-year-old, who joined Brighton’s academy in 2013, has accumulated 87 appearances in the Premier League for the club.

However, towards the end of the previous season, he fell out of favour, with Jason Steele taking the starting position in 15 of Brighton’s last 16 league games.

Sánchez is known for his impressive footwork and strong passing abilities. He has also earned two caps for the Spanish national team. At Stamford Bridge, he will be competing with his compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga for the goalkeeper position.

Chelsea’s acquisition of Sánchez marks their sixth signing of the summer transfer window as they prepare for a new chapter under manager Pochettino.

The Argentine coach is determined to overhaul the squad following a disappointing Premier League season, which was one of the club’s worst performances in almost thirty years.

The move also highlights the strong connection between Sánchez and Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, Ben Roberts.

The two had previously worked together during their time at Brighton, and their reunion could play a crucial role in the talented goalkeeper’s progress next season.

Chelsea’s active transfer window continues with their interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, but the club faces a steep asking price of £100 million for the Ecuadorian player.

Despite the ongoing negotiations, Chelsea are preparing for an exciting start to their campaign, with their Premier League opener against Liverpool scheduled for August 13 at Stamford Bridge.
