Chelsea Set to Loan out 21-year-old Defender Malang Sarr

The 21-year-old France youth International, Malang Sarr was a former player of Ligue 1. He reportedly turned down a new contract extension with his former club, Nice, and joined Chelsea for a five-year deal.

Chelsea agreed Sporting Director, Marina Granovskaia’s proposition to Frank Lampard of buying this young defender at a free cost.

Chelsea found this out to be an extremely attractive proposition as the defender could provide a dynamic solution to improve Chelsea’s defensive options.

Several big clubs namely Arsenal, Barcelona, and Liverpool were eyeing to secure a deal. He was free agent and has the ability to play at different positions down the line.

Chelsea didn’t think twice and was too quick to secure the best bargain of this summer.

“The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss. He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea,” said Marina Granovskaia on the deal.

Sarr with Nice

“We are very happy to welcome him to the club today”- Chelsea’s sporting director added.

In terms of defending, Sarr is quite adapted to play as a CB or LB. He has also capped the U21 France side. His passing ability, physicality, aerial prowess have surely made him the promising defender to sign.

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, who has worked with Sarr has hailed him for his leadership qualities.

He has the personality of a true leader,” he said Sport365 in a 2019 interview.

Chelsea has decided to loan him out to Bayer Leverkusen in order to sweeten the sensational Kai Havertz deal with the club.
