Chelsea ready to walk away from the deal to sign Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea appear ready to walk away from the deal to sign Enzo Fernandez unless Benfica reduce their asking price to green light the midfielder’s move to Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese giants have continued to play hardball over the transfer fee which could spell out an end to Chelsea’s pursuit of the Argentina international who was rumoured to be close to signing for the Blues.

According to a report from The Daily Mirror, it is claimed that Chelsea are concerned about the Financial Fair Play rules with the west London outfit understood to be on UEFA’s “watch list” following their big spending last summer.

Fernandez was keen on making the switch to the English capital after his terrific campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the champions Argentina where he was a key figure for his nation on their journey to lifting the trophy.

The Blues might be forced to look elsewhere for alternatives to bolster their midfield ranks after the setback in the chase for the Benfica talent with Graham Potter set to lose both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho at the end of the season.
