Chelsea Prepared To Offer Emerson A New Contract?

According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Chelsea are holding talks with Emerson over the signing of a new contract extension with the club.

New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has not had a great beginning to life at Stamford Bridge as a manager as he has managed just one win in five games across all competitions so far. Chelsea has only five points out of a possible 12 so far in the Premier League and also lost the UEFA Super Cup against fierce rivals Liverpool earlier last month.

But it seems like Lampard already knows the players that he wants to tie down at West London for a long time in order for the club to get better. Emerson is the latest player that is set to be offered a new contract as the Italian has put in some great performances at left back over the last few months after nailing down a starting berth at Chelsea.

Although this may seem a bit premature, Emerson is still on a relatively low pay scale at the club and having nailed down a place as a starter at Chelsea after pushing Marcos Alonso completely out of the picture.

Emerson still has three years of his 4.5 years at Chelsea as the defender signed a deal back in January 2018 but Chelsea want to prolong his stay at the club until 2024 adding a 25 percent increase to his wages which will not include performance-related bonuses.

The 25-year-old spent a while in shadows as Marcos Alonso was the first choice left-back but Emerson’s performances have put a seed of thought in Chelsea’s mind on whether he deserves a long term contract or not.
