Chelsea icon Eden Hazard has officially retired from professional football at the age of 32, marking the end of his career after a challenging period with Real Madrid.
The former Belgian star had made a high-profile move to Madrid for an initial transfer fee of £88.3 million, which could have reached £150 million with additional bonuses.
Unfortunately, Hazard’s time at the Spanish capital was marred by persistent injury issues, and he was unable to regain the exceptional form he displayed during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.
This makes him one of the most costly disappointments in the history of football.

Following his departure from the prestigious European club by mutual agreement last summer, Hazard received offers from various options including his home country Belgium, Serie A, and Major League Soccer.
However, the talented forward has chosen to retire from professional football, showing his aspiration to seek out new adventures and experiences.
While revealing his decision through his official Instagram handle, the star player said:
“You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.” After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world.”
“During my career, I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates – thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all. Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences. See you off the field soon my friends.”
Hazard secured seven trophies while at Madrid, which comprised two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
His time at Chelsea, spanning seven successful years at Stamford Bridge, saw him make 352 appearances, contributing with 110 goals and 92 assists.
Additionally, during his tenure with Chelsea, the Belgian also clinched several major titles, including two Premier League titles, two Europa League titles, and one FA Cup.
