Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings could be an alternative name for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to eye up a move for with the England international snubbing an extension at the Saint Mary’s.
Ings has been a hit for Southampton since his move away from Anfield and with just a year to go on his current deal with the Saints, speculation is that Chelsea could attempt to make a move for the contract rebel this summer.
Tuchel’s priority to make a big-money summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund Erling Haaland is believed to be unlikely ahead of the next season with the Bundesliga outfit insisting on being paid a fee worth €200 million to sanction the sale of the highly-rated Norway international to the west London giants.
With Chelsea on the hunt for a new forward to bolster the current options up top on the pitch, reports from The Mirror claim that the 28-ear-old Ings is seen as a probable target for Tuchel to keep tabs on in light of his contract standoff at Southampton.
The Saints will not be open to the idea of losing out on their star striker for nothing at the end of the 2021-22 season and could be forced into offloading him for a sizable fee this summer.
