According to Team Talk, Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco to fill the void left by Ian Maatsen, who is expected to depart in January.
Despite the Blues triggering an extension in Maatsen’s contract until June 2025, rumours still persist about his future, with both Manchester City and Liverpool reportedly showing interest in him ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Chelsea are actively searching for Maatsen’s replacement, and Dimarco is among the options they are considering.
The club has already started talks with the Italian player’s representatives. While Manchester United are also interested in the Italian player, Mauricio Pochettino’s side appears to be in the lead in the race to secure the £50 million star.

The West Londoners already have a number of left-back options in their squad, including Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, and Ian Maatsen, with centre-back Levi Colwill having also filled in that role this season.
While Chilwell is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, the club’s left-back situation appears to be well-covered.
The reported interest in the Serie A defender may come as a surprise, considering their existing options. However, Pochettino is known for favouring an attacking style of play, and Dimarco’s proficiency in the final third may be a key factor driving the pursuit.
The 25-year-old Italian impressed with six goals and ten assists in the previous season and has already contributed with one goal and three assists in the current campaign.
Dimarco has played as a left wing-back for Inter, although he started his career as a left-back. He could be a valuable investment for Chelsea, especially considering he is currently in the prime of his career.

However, it remains uncertain whether the club will make a move for him at the beginning of 2024.
Marc Cucurella has experienced a significant turnaround in his fortunes over the past few weeks. Initially on the sidelines at the start of the season, an injury to Chilwell, combined with standout performances, has elevated him to a key role in the team.
Given this situation, the Blues might be wiser to focus their resources on signing a top-tier striker rather than another left-back.
