According to The Independent, Chelsea and Barcelona are now in contention to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The 24-year-old forward could potentially make the move this summer or become a free agent next year. Both clubs are engaged in negotiations for a player-plus-cash deal to secure the talented French star’s services.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is leading an enticing bid to acquire Mbappe, aiming to secure the French superstar’s signature. At the same time, Barcelona are actively pursuing a player swap deal to land the highly sought-after forward.
In the midst of these pursuits, Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are determined to pursue Mbappe. Despite facing rejection from the player, Al-Hilal have received permission from PSG to engage in negotiations with the attacker after making an audacious world-record bid of £259 million earlier this month.
PSG are convinced that their star player has already agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. The potential deal reportedly includes a massive £138 million signing-on fee, making it an attractive proposition for the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League is eager to make Mbappe their star player, especially after appointing former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo as the director of football at their Player Acquisition Centre of Excellence (PACE).
Emenalo’s responsibility is to oversee recruitment efforts for the league’s clubs, and he will present an offer to Mbappe.
The rumours surrounding Mbappe’s future intensified when he chose not to activate the one-year extension in his PSG contract, which would have kept him at the club until 2025.

In response to his decision, PSG have placed him in training with their transfer-listed players, hoping that he will accept an offer to leave the club this summer instead of leaving for free next year.
As of now, it remains uncertain where Mbappe’s future lies and it is expected that there will be many twists and turns in the transfer saga before the window closes.
