Juventus’ young central defender Matthijs de Ligt has emerged on Chelsea’s radar for this summer’s transfer window with Thomas Tuchel’s camp keeping close tabs on the player.
Reports from Italian news outlet Calciomercatoweb claim that the Blues are set to table a cash-plus-player offer for the 21-year-old De Ligt with the Premier League giants looking to send Timo Werner in the opposite direction.
Werner failed to meet the expectations that had surrounded his big-money move to Stamford Bridge last summer as the Germany international forward endured a dismal run of form in front of the goal across his debut campaign in west London.
With Romelu Lukaku on his way to the Bridge, Werner’s spot on the teamsheet is bound to come under threat and shipping out the player to Juventus could lure the Serie A heavyweights into accepting De Ligt’s move away from the club.

The 21-year-old Holland international defender has been a top talent in recent years and his addition to the Chelsea ranks would bolster Tuchel’s options at the back heading into the start of the new campaign.
