Chelsea handed opportunity to sign Ousmane Dembele for a cut-price fee

Chelsea have been handed an opportunity to sign Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele for a cut-price fee ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The France international winger had agreed to extend his terms at Camp Nou in the summer amid Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain credited with a strong interest in moving in for his signature.

New boss Graham Potter is expected to dip into the transfer market for reinforcements to bolster his misfiring front line which has failed to impress despite the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and deadline day recruit Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

According to a report from the Spanish news outlet Marca, it is claimed that Dembele will have a knockdown £43 million release clause for just a two-month window which means Chelsea would have to act quickly should they wish to sign the Frenchman.

Between June and July 2023, Dembele could be made available to his suitors for a cut-price fee before his release clause will double on August 1 as the Barca camp prepares to open talks with the attacker to renew his contract.
