Chelsea have reportedly issued a deadline to Barcelona for completing their long-awaited deal to sign Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso in this summer’s transfer window.
According to a report from the Spanish news outlet Sport, it is claimed that Chelsea have conveyed to Barcelona that they need to complete the transfer no later than next week following the delay in Barca’s snapping up of Alonso.
The former Fiorentina defender is understood to be a top name on the summer’s wishlist for Xavi who is looking to bolster his backline by bringing in the Spain international deemed surplus to requirements by the Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Alonso has even agreed to reduce his wage demands to make the move to Barcelona and is in line to agree upon a three-year contract with the Catalan giants who will shell out a modest £8.5 million fee to land his signature.
Barcelona’s well-documented financial troubles, however, means that the Camp Nou fold are focused on ensuring the registration of summer recruit Jules Kounde before dipping into the market for fresh faces.
