Barcelona edging closer to securing the signing of Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso

Barcelona are claimed to be edging closer to securing the signing of Chelsea’s Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso this summer with the talks now reaching an advanced stage.

Alonso has been subject to serious interest from the Camp Nou outfit in the summer transfer window with the Barcelona boss Xavi keen to reinforce his backline by bringing in the Blues defender.

The 31-year-old Alonso is nearing the end of his six-year stint at Stamford Bridge, according to the German journalist Christian Falk, with the Barca camp set to resume the negotiations with Chelsea following their return from the pre-season tour to the USA.

Barcelona are in the market for a new left-sided wing-back to provide competition in that role for the long-serving Jordi Alba and Alonso has caught the eye of the Barcelona head coach Xavi with the player heading into the final year of his Chelsea deal.

Xavi would be hoping to raid Chelsea a third time this summer for the services of Thomas Tuchel’s defensive mainstay and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta who is another priority target at Camp Nou.
