Chelsea’s new veteran defender, Thiago Silva, who signed for Frank Lampard’s side earlier this summer from PSG has opened up on his meeting with a young fan of his whom he met last summer. His name is Alex Mann who rose to fame in the previous year at the Glastonbury’s Festival.
The teenage rapper went viral after he was called to join Britsh music artist Dave on stage from the crowd. He was wearing a Paris Saint Germain jersey with Thiago’s name written in his back. He recited each word of the song ‘Thiago Silva’ on stage and that did reach to Thiago Silva too.
The young fan was later invited that summer Paris to meet the PSG captain. Thiago signed a jersey for him and asked him to sing the song again in front of him.
‘So I was really happy, it was pleasing that there’s a song with my name. I remember that day well.’
‘This video of the lad Alex coming out of the crowd wearing my shirt, he got on stage and sang the song with all the other artists and it went viral.
‘Of course, it arrived to me in Paris and I then got the opportunity to meet Alex and thank him because sometimes us footballers lose the idea of the influence and reach that we have,” said the Brazilian defender.
The 36-year-old player left the Paris club to join Frank Lampard’s Chelsea this season as a free agent. In his career, he has won 30 trophies for both club and country but this is his first experience in the English Premier League, however, the 35-year old has tipped to shine by new club teammate Olivier Giroud.
For many years, he had stayed in the French League, Ligue 1 where he won back to back trophies. He is yet to make a debut for his new club.
After gaining match fitness, he is likely to feature in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley. His ability as a ball-playing centre-back swill hugely benefit Chelsea, in the long run, heading into the 2020-21 season.
