Chelsea center-back Kalidou Koulibaly approached by Saudi club Al-Ittihad

Chelsea center-back Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly been approached by Saudi club Al-Ittihad, raising the possibility of a move to the Middle East this summer.

The Daily Mail states that the former Napoli player has received an offer to join Al-Ittihad, which could result in his departure from West London after just one season.

Koulibaly was signed by the Blues in the previous summer transfer window for £34 million. However, he struggled to make a significant impact, leading the club to consider selling him.

Compared to his dominant performances in Serie A, the 31-year-old’s form at Chelsea has been lackluster, leaving him as a shadow of his former self.

Koulibaly has faced injuries that have hindered his playing time and contributed to a decline in his performance. The Public Investment Fund, known for its investments in various clubs and ownership of 80% of Newcastle United, is interested in the African defender as part of their project.

This opportunity could prove financially rewarding for the center-back, especially considering his declining form.

While Al-Ittihad is a potential destination for the Senegalese player, he may also consider joining another club. Koulibaly is reportedly open to discussing the potential move, indicating his willingness to explore new opportunities.

Juventus has emerged as another potential destination for the Senegalese star, as the Chelsea center-back has endured a challenging season.

The Blues are looking to trim their squad and are open to offloading Koulibaly during the summer transfer window. The prospect of a lucrative offer from a Middle Eastern club could facilitate the club’s rebuilding efforts.

Even if Koulibaly remains at Chelsea, manager Mauricio Pochettino may opt to prioritize younger players, potentially limiting the veteran defender’s playing time.

The arrival of Levi Colwill, who had a successful loan spell at Brighton Hove Albion, further adds to the competition for opportunities in defense.

Pochettino already has a wealth of defensive options, including Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile.

With younger and fitter alternatives at hand, Chelsea could seize the opportunity to capitalize on Koulibaly’s sale.
