Chelsea and Andreas Christensen edging closer to contract extension

Chelsea and Andreas Christensen are reportedly edging closer to a contract extension for the Danish central defender at Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Christensen’s long-term future at the club had been the subject of much talk since the turn of the year amid Thomas Tuchel keen on signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla this summer.

Tuchel, however, considers Christensen a key part of his first-team plans with Chelsea which explains Romano’s recent report that an agreement is in place between the two parties over signing the new deal with only a few clauses left to be ironed out.

It is understood that interest was shown in Christensen’s signature from two clubs but Chelsea have remained firm on their longstanding intention to tie down the Denmark international to an extension.

Tuchel’s worry on his player’s future will now be focused on that of Christensen’s centre-back partner Antonio Rudiger who is hoping for a major bump in his wages to put pen to paper on a new contract with the west London giants.
