Failure to land the signature of long-term target Romelu Lukaku could convince Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to eye up a move for Lukau’s striker partner at San Siro in Lautaro Martinez.
Reports from Fichajes claim that the Serie A holders are in line to list Martinez for sale in this summer’s transfer window with the Italians demanding a fee worth €70 million for parting ways with the forward.
Besides Chelsea, Manchester City are also understood to be right in the mix for the Argentina international and Arsenal are also being backed to launch an ambitious effort to sign Martinez who scored 17 goals for Inter Milan last season in 38 top-flight outings.
Tuchel’s priority this summer was to induct fresh blood into his attacking department at Stamford Bridge but the German has been dealt consecutive blows on the transfer front with neither Erling Haaland nor Romelu Lukaku are expected to arrive at Chelsea ahead of the next season.
Lukaku is considered pivotal to Inter’s title defence in the upcoming campaign and the San Siro giants have made it clear that they do not intend to sanction the Belgian’s sale despite strong interest from Chelsea in the player’s services.
