Chelsea agree to €2 million fee for Olivier Giroud’s AC Milan transfer

World Cup-winning French forward Olivier Giroud is edging closer to his exit from Chelsea with AC Milan in line to complete the signing subject to the player’s medical in Italy.

Giroud had been backed to call it quits on west London in this summer’s transfer window following his move down the pecking order at Chelsea since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel earlier this year.

Chelsea’s interest in signing a big-name striker this summer, with Erling Haaland the priority target for Tuchel and Chelsea, further gave rise to speculation of AC Milan intensifying their approach for the veteran Giroud.

Reports from Sky Sports suggest that the Blues will be pocketing a meagre fee of €2 million for sanctioning Giroud’s move to the San Siro giants who had earlier raided Chelsea for the young central defender Fikayo Tomori and also have their sights on a loan swoop for Hakim Ziyech.

Giroud joined Chelsea in January 2018 from fellow city rivals Arsenal in a deal that cost the Blues £18 million and across his 119 outings for Chelsea, the France international netted 39 goals and clinched the Champions League title this past season.
