Both sides looked to threaten early on in the game which was of paramount importance to move further in the knockout stages of the competition.

Thomas Tuchel’s decision to field a strong-looking XI paid off with central defender Trevoh Chalobah finding the opener for his side despite a VAR check for a possible handball.

Veteran defender Thiago Silva had a goal-line clearance to make to deny Juventus from getting the leveller and Chelsea had the 37-year-old to thank for heading into the half-time break with the lead intact.

Fresh after the break it was Callum Hudson-Odoi who doubled the advantage for Thomas Tuchel’s men with a neat control and smashing finish into the back of the net.

The in-form wing-back Reece James added to the scoresheet and Chelsea had all but rubber-stamped the win before Tuchel’s man off the bench Timo Werner got in on the action too.

Werner found the back of the net for his first goal in the Chelsea shirt since October with the German finding an easy tap in from a Hakim Ziyech delivery into the box.
