Milan shot-stopper Ciprian Tatarusanu was called into action early to deny Mason Mount from finding the back of the net with the Chelsea attacker teed up by Auabameyang for a chance inside the opening minutes.

The hosts, however, did not have to wait for long to open the scoring with Wesley Fofana slotting home from close range after a goal-mouth scramble in the Milan box.

Mount thought he had doubled the lead after his lovely chip over Tatarusanu but the linesman’s flag went up with Mount deemed offside in the build up.

Graham Potter had to withdraw injury concern Fofana with Trevoh Chalobah coming off the bench to replace the former just before the half time break.

Milan missed out an early chance with Rade Krunic striking over the bar as Chelsea looked to add to their advantage on the other end of the pitch.

It was Aubameyang who got his side the second goal 10 minutes into the second half with Reece James putting in a teasing delivery for Aubameyang to head and turn into the net.

James soon turned scorer from the provider with the wing-back set up by Raheem Sterling to strike a shot high into the roof of the net and all but ensure the win for Chelsea.
