The visitors proved to be a tough match for Chelsea in the early stages of the game with Spurs providing the threat in the attacking third of the pitch.

New signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly came close with strikes but were unable to trouble the Spurs goalie Hugo Lloris.

Koulibaly, however, did not have to wait for long to get his first goal in the Chelsea shirt with the centre-back striking home an unstoppable right-foot volley past Lloris to make it 1-0 for the home side.

With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the interval, Spurs had midfield man Hojbjerg level the affair despite Chelsea’s protests of the goal being allowed to stand with Kai Havertz fouled in the build up.

Spurs’ goal did not trouble Chelsea from reclaiming their lead with wing-back Reece James teed up by Sterling to find the back of the net as Lloris could not deny the Chelsea defender.

Chelsea were dealt a severe blow in the dying moments of the game with Spurs talisman Harry Kane heading from a corner after the referee sought a VAR check over the tussle between Cucurella and Cristian Romero.

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte had another fierce altercation at the full time whistle with both coaches shown red cards by Anthony Taylor.
