Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest Three (3) Significant Lessons From The Blues Victory

Chelsea eased with the next round of the FA cup as they defeated the EFL Championship side, Nottingham Forest on the New Year eve.

It was not an easy game for Frank Lampard and his troops when the Forest (as they are fondly called) visited the Bridges for a 90 minutes context.

The Blues would have Hudson-Odoi to thank as the bit-per Chelsea player this season (largely due to injury) opened the account for Chelsea in the game.

In the end, the Blues marched on to the next stage of the FA Cup competition as we evaluate the three significant lessons from Chelsea 2-0 triumphs over Nottingham Forest.

First Win Of 2020 for Chelsea

The Blues might have ended the year on a good note but that’s not what the situation is in the New Year 2020. They defeated Arsenal 1-2 away from home at the Emirates on 29th December following good tactical prowess from Frank Lampard.

However, they dropped valuable points when it was least expected against Brighton and Hove Albion as they drew 1-1 away in the New Year.

This was not pleasing to the Chelsea course in the season as they aim to secure top four place in the season.

But with the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Chelsea took advantage of the weaker opposition to record a win in the New Year and the first one as they entertained the Championship side at home. It is left to be seen if they can build on this first win of the year (2020) when they face Burnley at the weekend.

English Guns Flourish

It was an opportunity for some of the Chelsea players who have not tasted enough action on the pitch to do so as Frank Lampard made some personnel changes as expected to ahead of this FA Cup tie.

In the end, it was Ross Barkley and Hudson-Odoi that profited from this most as the latter opened the scoring for Chelsea very early in the tie (6th minute) while also before playing a part in Ross Barkley second goal. The midfielder tucked the ball (rebound) home from close range after good work from Odoi in the box. This offer renewed hope for both players as both England stars flourished with an eye into making Gareth Southgate England’s EURO 2020 squad.

Credit To The Visitors

This requires less explanation as the visitors earned their respect despite going two goals down away from home just after the half-hour work.

They held on for the damage limitation while also carving out chances of their own that Chelsea was at its best to deal with in the game. Despite the defeat, they left the Bridge with head held high as they lost only 2-0 with couple of decent showings in the game much to the respite of their fans who were in attendance in the tie.
