It was not the start Chelsea wanted as they were frustrated by Wolves to remain stuck in a 0-0 final score. It wasn’t even 24 hours since Tuchel was appointed as the new Chelsea coach that they had to play a Premier League game.
Chelsea players passed the ball only for the sake of keeping possession and there was no sign of Tuchel’s promised ‘brave football’. Tuchel put Lamaprd’s most trusted young players- Mason Mount and Reece James on the bench and put experienced players.
He admitted to relying on experience due to the ‘pressure and tension’ surrounding the club and their relative poor position at the table. Rudiger, Jorginho, Giroud all started the game and surprisingly there was no Timo Werner at the starting XI.
Although the Blues dominated, Ruben Neves was very close with his free-kick while Leander Dendoncker missed a free header from Pedro Neto’s ball. Chelsea dominated 94% possession throughout the game as they completed 466 passes- most by any team of the PL this season.
Only Kai Havertz looked as if he could give a late winner for Chelsea. His dramatic moment came late in the match when his glancing header beat the keeper but was cleared from the goal-line by a Wolves’ defender.
