Bayern Munich step up the chase for Chelsea striker Timo Werner

Bayern Munich have reportedly stepped up the chase for Chelsea striker Timo Werner who finds himself right on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s roster at Stamford Bridge.

The Germany international has fallen down the pecking order since Tuchel acquired his longstanding target Romelu Lukaku in this summer’s transfer window in a big-money deal from Inter Milan.

Despite the Chelsea boss sounding out assurances that Werner, who joined the Blues only last summer, remains crucial to the club following Lukaku’s arrival, there is talk of the former Leipzig man calling it quits to seal a transfer elsewhere.

Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich have long been linked with a move for Werner and reports from Football Insider have suggested that in search of a replacement for the 33-year-old Roman Lewandowski, Julian Nagelsmann is keeping close tabs on the Chelsea man.

Nagelsmann had managed Werner earlier during their time together at RB Leipzig and with the player unable to secure a regular berth on the Chelsea team sheet, the Bayern boss might be looking for a reunion as early as this upcoming January in the winter transfer window.
