Barkley Claims Mount Is Similar To Lampard

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has admitted that Chelsea youngster Mason Mount is quite similar to Blues legend Frank Lampard.

Lampard took over Chelsea football club in the summer after Maurizio Sarri left the club following just one season in management. But the return for the Englishman hasn’t been as glorified as he expected as the West London side has racked up just five points out of a possible 12 so far in four Premier League games.

However, Lampard is giving youth a chance and they are repaying the faith in his trust and belief as all of his goalscorers this term have been organically produced by the academy. One player who has impressed thoroughly has been Mason Mount as the youngster’s pace, skill and ability make him a big threat in the attacking third.

The 20-year-old has already scored two goals in four appearances so far and those impressive outings with Chelsea have earned Mount a call up to the England national squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The attacking midfielder has also been compared to Frank Lampard by midfield gem Ross Barkley when reporters asked the 25-year-old the similarity between the two.

Mount spent last season on loan at Debry County with Lampard and has learned a lot from the ex-Blues midfielder Lampard who was also coaching the Rams.

Barkley said, “Yes, he is similar. With a season under him last year you can see his development from last year and he has brought that here and started the season really well. The way he arrives in the box and gets shots away early, it is similar to Lamps. I’m very pleased with him. He is a brilliant player.”

The former Everton midfielder also went on to praise Mount because the young gun is a player that constantly wants to learn and improve, “You have seen what he did on loan last season at Derby County and at the start of the season how good he is. And he is hungry to improve, hungry to score and hungry to help the team in any way he can, if it is out on the left, in the No10 or in a midfield three. He is very versatile. When he was in the England squad last season you could see he was willing to learn and work hard. His chance with England is coming now.
