Barcelona confirmed the signing of outgoing Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen who had entered free agency after running out his deal at the Bridge, according to a report from the Catalan club’s website.
Christensen had decided against renewing his terms in the English capital this summer with the Danish centre-back courted aggressively by Barcelona since the turn of the year with the player available on a Bosman deal.
Thomas Tuchel’s repeated attempts to tie down his key defensive talent in Christensen to a long-term extension failed to hit the ground and the 26-year-old was officially unveiled as a Barca player with Christensen penning a deal until 2026.
Christensen was joined by fellow centre-back Antonio Rudiger on the way out of Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window with both exits hitting Tuchel hard as the Blues head coach has his task cut out in bolstering a defensive lineup which is now depleted.
Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Juventus contract rebel Matthijs de Ligt are said to be the top names on Tuchel’s summer wishlist with a big-money offer reportedly tabled for the Dutchman De Ligt to prize him away from Turin.
