Atletico Madrid are keen on a swoop for Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso with Diego Simeone set to revive interest in his longstanding target.
Alonso has been eyed up by the La Liga champions in the recent past and the Spain international defender could be on his way back to his homeland with Atletico hoping to add depth to their defensive ranks in the summer.
The Chelsea first-teamer will enter the final year of his contract in the English capital come the summer and Atletico boss Diego Simeone is keeping close tabs on Alonso’s contract situation with the Chelsea camp.
According to reports from the Spanish news outlet Marca, it is claimed that even though an approach for Alonso’s signature looks unlikely in what remains of the ongoing January window, Atletico will be in line to step up their chase ahead of the next campaign’s start.
Chelsea are also believed to be reluctant on sanctioning Alonso’s departure midway through the season with Thomas Tuchel depending upon the 31-year-old to provide cover in the wing-back role for the injured Ben Chilwell.
