The chase for Benjamin Sesko by Chelsea takes a turn. This summer one of the most sought-after prospects in the transfer market is Benjamin Sesko a striker from the German side RB Leipzig.
The 20-year-old Slovenian’s stunner debut season in the Bundesliga where he scored 14 goals in 17 starts has drawn interest from a number of Premier League teams including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. But clubs who want to sign Sesko will have to move quickly to do so.
The release clause in Sesko’s contract has to be activated by the end of June according to Philipp Hinze a reporter for Sky Sport Germany. This clause which was originally supposed to increase to £68 million subject to performance-related conditions has now been confirmed to be worth around £58 million as of the end of the German season.
Because release clauses usually require a single payment which many teams may find challenging to arrange on short notice which includes these interested clubs. Since, all three of these teams are supposedly nearing the cap on their Premier League spending rules (PSR) for the current campaign, this financial restriction may present issues for them.

Sesko, only joined Leipzig last summer for about £22 million and he still has four years left on his contract and he also played for club RB Salzburg previously. Top clubs are showing interest in him despite his recent move, suggests that he is rising quickly in the football world.
With manager Mikel Arteta eager to expand his attacking options Arsenal seems to have the greatest interest in Sesko. Nevertheless they have financial limitations just like Chelsea and United. Sesko’s release clause could be forfeited if they don’t move quickly which would complicate any possible transfer.
Sesko is anticipated to compete for Slovenia in the European Championships this summer which further complicates matters. Clubs will find it more difficult to sign him if Leipzig demands a transfer fee that exceeds the £62 million release clause if he performs well. Competition comes from non-Premier League clubs as well.

A bidding war can also take place between Newcastle United and AC Milans to sign Sesko. Leipzig may consider offers even after the June release clause expires though probably at a much higher cost if Sesko performs well at the European Championships.
To sum up Arsenal and Chelsea are two of the teams hoping to sign Benjamin Sesko and the competition is getting fierce. Multiple levels of complexity surround the possible transfer including the timing of his release clause and the associated financial obligations. If clubs want to sign the gifted young striker this summer they must move swiftly and forcefully.
