Andreas Christensen delighted at Chelsea FC progress under Frank Lampard

Andreas Christensen has expressed his desire of extending his stay at Stamford Bridge and is open to the idea of signing a new contract with the Blues. The Danish center-back has become a regular starter in the Chelsea FC side under Frank Lampard.

Christensen had been used sparingly by former Chelsea FC manager Maurizio Sarri last season. There was speculation that the Danish international may choose to leave the Blues last summer. However, on Lampard being hired as the Chelsea FC boss, Christensen chose to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year old has formed a partnership with Antonio Rudiger at the back for the Blues this season. The Dane has performed exceptionally well when dealing with opposition attackers and has improved his game significantly under Frank Lampard.

The Blues coach has had to rotate the Chelsea FC defensive line often due to the presence of four center-backs at Chelsea FC in Christensen, Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, and Fikayo Tomori. Each of the central defenders have started at least 15 Premier League games under Lampard’s management.

Earlier this year in January, Lampard had ruled out the possibility of Christensen leaving the Blues. The Chelsea FC manager had stated that Christensen had the potential to become a great center-back at the West London based Premier League side.

And now, Christensen has voiced his delight at the progress he has made under Lampard in the 2019-20 season. The Danish center-half insisted that he had never doubted his intention to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, the 24-year old also expressed hope for a title-winning challenge from his side in the next season.

The Chelsea FC defender also praised the rotation of center-backs made by Lampard for the Blues. According to Christensen, such rotation of the defensive backline had led to healthy competition amongst the Chelsea FC defenders.

Despite the presence of four first-team central defenders at his disposal, Lampard has been reported to be on the hunt for another defensive reinforcement to the Chelsea FC squad. RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and West Ham’s  Declan Rice have emerged as likely options for the Chelsea FC manager.
